School field trip performance is 10 am on December 2nd.

 

Auditions on Saturday Sept 17, times will be announced later.  Everyone is welcome to audition!

Take advantage on this cultural in-county FIELD TRIP opportunity which will match Georgia Performance Standards in reading, literature, English, writing, spelling, music, drama, and art.  You can plan your pre and post activities in the areas above to cover the educational field trip requirements.

Learner expectations and Georgia Performance Standards objectives related to the Nutcracker Ballet.

 

Georgia Performance Standards English Language Arts:

ELA2R2; ELA2R4; ELA2W1; ELA2W1

 

Concept: Distinguish between fiction and non-fiction, recall and interpret information presented orally, experience traditional and contemporary literature through a variety of media, identify the main characters.

 

TopicLiterature study

 

CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES PRECEDING THE NUTCRACKER PERFORMANCE:  Read the Nutcracker Story the Dallas School of Dance will provide you.  Identify the main characters.  Do a Venn Diagram on the realistic fictional scenes and the fantasy scenes.

 

Classroom activities following THE NUTCRACKER PERFORMANCE:  Write a letter to your favorite main character.  Write a critical essay of the performance to include what you liked and what you disliked.  Include in your essay any changes you would make to the story if YOU were the original author.

 

ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING WILL INCLUDE:  Information written and oral discussions will determine student comprehension of the subject matter.
